Frequently Asked Questions

To help answer some of your questions around what we offer at Newcastle Community Preschool, we have compiled a list of some of our frequently asked questions.

 

If you have any additional questions please feel free to get in contact with us and we will endeavour to answer your questions. 

Q: How do I make an appointment to see the Preschool?

Q: Does the Preschool provide food?

A: Yes, the Preschool supplies afternoon tea, but Children will need to pack lunch and a water bottle each day. Cooking experiences are included in our program and the children will be able to taste their cooking. 

Q: Does the Preschool cater for children with allergies, Asthma or Anaphylaxis?

A: Yes. We have a NUT AWARE policy. Action plans and medications must be provided to the preschool. The Preschool will work closely with families to be able to best support your child and their individual needs. 

Q: Does my child need to be immunised?\

A: Yes, under the NSW Public Health Act 2010, an approved Immunisation History Statement or Immunisation History Form from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) must be provided in order for you to enrol your child. See useful links in 'Links for Parents'

Q: Do you offer the Child Care Subsidy?

A: No, we are funded by the NSW State Government and child care subsidies are not applicable to Preschool services. However if you hold a Health Care card/ Pension card and your child is listed as a dependant you may be eligible to receive fee relief (Please speak with the Director for more information)

Q: What does my child need to bring to Preschool?

A: A large backpack that can fit all their belongings containing; 

  • A healthy lunch and Water bottle - No lollies, sweet biscuits or chips please. 

  • A complete spare set of clothes (including underpants, more than one pair if your child is prone to accidents).

  • Wet weather gear for rainy days (gumboots). 

Please make sure your child's name is clearly marked on all belongs. We ask that the children do not bring toys from home into preschool. A comfort toy may be appropriate during the settling in period. 

Q: What do we do when we arrive?

A: Upon arriving at the Preschool;

  • Sign your child in on the iPad system located on the bench upon entry. You must also sign your child out when picking them up. 

  • Encourage your child to;

       - Put their bag into a spare cube in the lockers

       - Put their own lunch box into the fridge 

       - Place their water bottle into the water bottle container provided

       - Sign their name into preschool role located at the children sign in area

 

Feel free to spend a short time playing with your child to help the settle in. This is especially helpful when first starting at Preschool. When you decide to go please let an educator know and they will assist your child to settle into the day after they have said goodbye at our 'Goodbye window'. 

Q: I'd like to enrol, what's next?

A: If you wish to enrol your child into our Preschool you will need to complete the follows steps;

  • Arrange a visit to the preschool to meet the director and educators, see our wonderful preschool setting and ask any other questions you may have. We also recommend that you bring along your child's birth certificate and immunisation record to be photocopied and placed on file. 

  • The director will give you a run down on what's included in the price of the preschool fees, e.g. hours, afternoon tea, Preschool hat, USB stick at the end of year with portfolio. 

  • You will receive a parent handbook via email or a printed version can be given if required. 

  • Completion of all enrolment forms, with additional attachments e.g. birth certificate, immunisations statement, etc. will need to be returned to Newcastle Community  Preschool and a start date will be arranged.

  • You will be required to pay a two week bond + the annual equipment fee before commencement at Newcastle Community Preschool.
